The Exotic Is Never Home

This project pays homage to the curiosity cabinet, an object symbolic of the transcultural exchange under European colonial expansion. Taking painting and objects symbolic of Indonesian natural resources, this iteration also references greenhouses in botanical gardens as an expanded curiosity cabinet.

Putri responds to the large wooden vitrines that have long lived in the corridors of Edinburgh College of Art by populating its shelves with such objects, using its form and the historical method of display to evoke the curiosity cabinet.
